Article 3.3.1.15. provides the design criteria for stairs And Clause 3.3.1.15.(2)(d) requires the front edge of the treads to be at right angles to the direction of travel.
Appellant's Position
The appellant contends that the stair meets the requirements Sentence 3.3.1.15.(2). This contention is at least partly based on previous acceptance by another building authority.
Building Official's Position
The building official maintains the stair does not meet the requirements of Clause 3.3.1.15.(2)(d).
Appeal Board Decision #1375
It is the determination of the Board that the stair design in question does not meet the requirement of Clause 3.3.1.15.(2)(d) because even when using the handrail the path of travel may not be at right angles to the front edge of the tread.
