The Safety Authority Act establishes the BC Safety Authority (BCSA) as an independent not-for-profit corporation responsible for the delivery of safety services throughout the province. The BCSA began its operations on April 1, 2004.
The establishment of the BCSA allows for more responsive decision making, a more efficient operating system, and greater overall accountability.
Under the Act, the BCSA is required annually to make public their three-year business plan, as well as their annual report on the previous year's operations. The system contains strong checks and balances to protect public safety.
